Slideshows, then and now
June 20, 2008
I never realized how hard it would be to put a slideshow together for the funeral. How do you encapsulate a lifetime into a handful of photos to fit within a 4-minute song? I realize there are so many gaps, so many memories and so many people missing from what I have put together.
I also think back to how Dad always loved putting on slideshows (the old way with a slide machine projected onto the wall). Whenever we had company, or for special events or holidays, he would bring out that old machine and we would take a trip back in time. I can still remember the click-clack of the carousel that rotated the slides and seeing the dust trickle through the light stream of the projector.
I think he would have enjoyed seeing these photos we’re putting together for his memorial service.

Cara,
I ran into Tammy Batson Wednesday night and she told me about your dad. I am so sorry for your loss and I hurt for you knowing exactly what you are going through.
Love you,

It took so much courage for you to speak at the service last night. You did a beautiful job and I know that you made him very proud. He was a unique and special person and will be missed by many. May God give strength to you and your family in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
