One month ago today …

Mom just reminded me that one month ago today was when Dad passed away. It still doesn’t seem like reality. His sickness didn’t either. I guess this is something you never get used to.

I remember a year ago when Jeff and I left for the hospital at like 6 in the morning, we told Dad and Mom to just hang tight until we called them. I figured there was no use for them to come down, especially if we had a long time to wait. What I didn’t realize is that they got up and ready as soon as we left and drove down to a gas station by the interstate, just waiting for our call.

They were so excited about this baby. They waited for hours and hours and hours to see this little miracle. She brought all of us much joy and happiness.

One year ago …

One year ago, at this moment, I received an epidural. And it was the most wonderful experience of my life at the time.

A Year Ago Tonight …

A year ago tonight I was pacing the floors while everyone slept, rubbing my contracting belly so much and so hard that I got a rash on my arms and palms. I paced the floors nearly at night until 6 in the morning when I begged Jeff to take me to the hospital.

My contractions began earlier in the day, no doubt in response to the stress from the wreck that my niece and nephews were involved in.

The horrible accident marked a year of tragic events for our family. My sister-in-law Pam emailed me tonight and said they were celebrating New Year’s Day today, in faith believing for a better year to come. I’ll drink to that! (well, you know what I mean …)

911

We picked up Grammy from the airport tonight. She is going to spend a couple of weeks with us and be here for the baby’s birthday.

On the way home, she was playing with Grammy’s cell phone and Mom said, “I hope she doesn’t dial 911.”

A second later, she dialed 911! Mom grabbed the phone and closed it, and we were all screaming and laughing, but a few seconds later she got a call from the 911 call center. She didn’t want to answer it! Jeff and I were like, you’ve got to answer it!!!

She did and apologized and told them what happened. They were nice about it. Mom hopes she doesn’t get a bill.

Lesson learned. No more cell phone time until she’s 13! :)

This week

Baby Madilyn missed her family when they were away, visiting family in Pennsylvania. When Aunt Pam and the kids came home this week, they stopped by for a welcome visit. Madilyn was so excited to see her cousins.

Brock was at his friend Evyn’s house, who had gotten an emergency appendectomy earlier in the week. We popped by as well to see him and Brock — and to drop off a big container of jelly beans.

Jaycie and Madilyn — dressed alike!

It only takes a second. Whenever Madilyn is quiet and we don’t see her — we know she’s up to something. The other day when that happened we found her wiping out the fireplace. Thanks, hon!

I try to take her picture whenever she’s in a cute new outfit. And that’s pretty often! I still can’t believe how much she is changing — and losing that itty bitty baby face.

Happy 4th!

We had a wonderful 4th of July weekend. We went to a cookout with some church folks. It was almost too hot to do anything (but eat, of course!). Later that night we drove around looking at the local fireworks. My thoughts went back to July 4th last year, when my stomach was as big as a watermelon. This was also about the time my Dad and Mom drove down to stay with us until after the baby was born. Little did we know what would transpire this year. Dad was so excited about this baby. He was so proud to become a grandpa.

Feeling patriotic …

Our friend Tracy made Madilyn a 4th of July pillowcase dress. So cute!

She had Cadence in a matching dress as well.

Daddy is helping Madilyn walk a lot!

Madilyn loved the swings at the park! This was the first time she enjoyed swinging in the baby swings and even cried when we took her out.

I love this picture. What sweet rosy cheeks and beautiful blue eyes …

Yes, that is her tummy peeking through the swing! Yikes!

This was Madilyn’s dress for Sunday, July 6th. I think this is the first size 18 months dress that she’s worn.

Such a little poser! In a good way. :)

In another update, Madilyn has another tooth coming in on the bottom. That makes 4 teeth coming in at one time! Bless her heart …
